Have you gotten a Christmas gift for the sports lover in your family?
Well, Christmas is a couple of weeks away, so have you bought a gift yet for the sports lover in your family?
If not, then why not one of these two books?

The hockey book is about the Boston-Montreal rivalry from 1988-1994, when the Bruins won five of the six series played between the two clubs, ending a streak of 18 consecutive playoff series losses to the Canadiens. Click to purchase this book here.
The baseball book is a biography of Tom Candiotti, the former knuckleball pitcher who pitched in the 1980s and 1990s. Candiotti won 151 major-league games and this book highlights his career. You can purchase this book here.

TSN1040 appearance (Oct. 13, 2017)
Here’s an appearance I made on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, as a guest on Rob Fai’s Canadians Gameday radio program on TSN1040 Vancouver. I come on at the 41-minute mark.
The mystery of the green helmet… solved….
Looks like I was a sucker during my first two years working at Nat Bailey Stadium as I wore a certain green helmet… The truth about this came out in a broadcast on June 20, 2017, when the sight of a security guard wearing a red helmet made broadcaster Rob Fai remember that story:
Tales from the classroom #006
So, I teach kids. I teach teenagers. I also teach adults.
Now, as a teacher and instructor, I come across all types of students. Some are just assholes.
Just last week, I encountered one such student. Now, we’re talking about an adult class, where you’d expect people would be mature.
Not the one student that I had to deal with. This individual did poorly on the final test – and when I was approached and asked why the score was low, I explained the answer in detail.
This person couldn’t handle it, and started talking about other students’ scores. To be professional, I gave encouragement and stated that it’s not about comparing yourself to others; it’s comparing yourself to your own performance from before. As long as you’ve progressed, you’ve done a good job – don’t worry about the score.
This asshole didn’t care – basically this individual is someone who just overestimates their own ability by trashing other students. Totally unacceptable and unreasonable the way this asshole chose to deal with the situation after consulting with me.
It’s just another reminder: Hey, there’ll always be assholes in your classes – even adult classes where you expect people to be mature. I guess for some people, you’re not going to change their opinion even though their thinking is flawed.
It is what it is.
My new writing project
I’ve been away from this site for months – so it’s time for an update.
I’d been busy with teaching and writing, and therefore hadn’t had time to post anything here.
The project I’ve been working on is a book on the 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers. It’s a book about the Dodgers’ last World Championship team – and of course I’m rooting against them this year! So, my book will be more meaningful since it will still be the last ever Dodgers team to win a World Series.
Through the help of former Dodger general manager Fred Claire, I’ve been able to talk to 15 ex-players and coaches for this book. It’s been a terrific experience interviewing them to get their memories about that 1988 team.
Finding a publisher has proven to be tricky. Triumph Books showed interest but ultimately said no – they’d published a book on that team some time ago and it was too soon for a repeat. Another publisher looked at my submission and we had discussions, but they decided against taking on this project.
So, we’ll see what happens as I get in contact with others about this book.
